I wanted to highlight this great spice in this weeks post. It goes under the radar by many people but offers great benefits to our health. Turmeric is a spice that belongs to the Ginger family. Its active ingredient is curcumin and it has a slightly earthy, mildly bitter, slightly hot peppery flavor with a kind of mustard smell.
It also has natural antihistamine, anti-fungal and anti-bacterial properties. It is commonly put into curry sauces and soups as well as pasta sauces and dips. It is known to promote longevity.
Research is also starting to show that Turmeric may be a cancer-fighting food! It naturally detoxifies the liver and is great for arthritis due to its anti-inflammatory agents.
Give it a try next time you are whipping something up and let me know what you think!
